Capacity is tire-limited. Collins rates each set by the load range of the tires on it, and tires and wheels interchange across every Hi-Speed model. Note the HSD-P4C (Load Range C) is a lower-rated configuration — 3,040 lb per set and rated for 55–60 MPH, not 65. Load Range D has been standard since 2018.

You run a flatbed → Carrier Dolly System

This one isn’t a highway tow dolly — it’s a loading tool. 4. Towing EVs and AWD Vehicles With Collins Dollies

Electric and all-wheel-drive vehicles have changed what a tow dolly has to do. Most EV manufacturers require the vehicle to be transported with all four wheels off the ground, and for good reason: the drive wheels are coupled directly to the electric motors. Roll them on the pavement and the motors turn, generating current and heat with no way to manage it. That’s a drive-unit repair you don’t want on your insurance. AWD vehicles have the same problem for a different reason — tow two wheels down and you’re loading the transfer case or center differential in a way it was never designed for.

The clearance and hook-point problem

EVs bring two more headaches to a flatbed. The battery pack sits under the floor, so ground clearance is low and the pack is the last thing you want to scrape on the bed ramp. And a dead 12-volt system — common on a stranded EV — can leave the car locked in park with no way to roll it, and many EVs don’t have a conventional tow hook to pull from.
